OpenAI is the San Francisco-based AI lab behind ChatGPT, GPT-4, GPT-5, DALL-E and Sora. Founded in 2015 by Sam Altman, Elon Musk, Ilya Sutskever and others, it is backed by more than $13 billion from Microsoft and is widely seen as the company that pushed generative AI into the mainstream.
